The Community Events Playbook. Let's begin 🏌️♂️
Events in Web3 are key to accelerating... just about everything. From learning, to finding jobs, employees or partners. And more importantly to share "moments of reality" and build trust.
So that’s it, you decided to start building your community. And now you’re left wondering where to begin. In this article series I provide an overview of the events types you can do as an in-person community builder. I recommend starting with the simplest one: the social events. Read on to find out more.

You May Wonder “Who’s The Author Anyway?”
As of writing, I am wearing two hats:
Founder of Web3 Family in Barcelona based grassroots web3 community.
Community Builder at Ledger. Leading the ambassador program.
I started “helping out” with meetups back in 2018. Things escalated and since then I have run 60+ in-person community events as you can see in this spreadsheet.
I have yet to find another web3 community builder who can show such epic portfolio. As mentioned in a previous post, I do care about who I read and learn from and so should you.
The Community Events Playbook is a series of articles guiding you step-by-step from zero-to-hero on how to run community events 🏌️♂️ This is the very first article.
Check out the next article of the series: "Organizing Expert Talks For Meetups".
Three Broad Categories of Events
Social Events
Events with Activities
Larger Events
Let’s explore each of those in more details below.
Social Events
Your community members go there to hang out, get to know new like-minded people, hang out with friends, have a laugh, talk, have a drink, eat, party, play video games, do sport and so on.
Examples of social events:
Beer Meetups
Coffee Meetups
Hang In The Park
Brunch
Dinners
Pub Crawl
Night Clubbing
Beach Volley
Football (soccer)
Events with Activities
Your community members go there to participate in an activity or to watch/listen to “a show”. These events require more efforts to organize than the Social Events.
Examples of events with an activity:
Expert Talks
Panel Debates
Fishbowls
Public Debates
Workshops
Pitch Sessions
Open Mic / Story Telling
Quiz Night
Speed Dating
Larger Events
These events typically last between 1 to 4 days and gather larger crowd between 100-3000 people. People travel from abroad to attend and 99% of attendees are professionals. These events are heavy in logistics and often require professionals to organize them, even though they can sometimes be organized by hardcore grassroots community builders too.
Examples of larger events:
Hackathons
Conferences
Where To Start?
The easiest way to begin is to run a series of social events such as Beer Meetups. When launching a community I’d typically do it 2-3 times, once every 3 weeks.
That builds up a first layer of community, then I move on to “Events With Activities” as described in a paragraph above.
